1. Sheep Rearing Project: Sustainable Livelihoods for Single Women
Overview
The Sheep Rearing Project of the Dalit Welfare Association (DWA) is one of the most impactful livelihood programs designed to empower economically disadvantaged single women in the Kurnool and Nandyal districts. This initiative focuses on creating sustainable income opportunities in rural and tribal communities, where women often face limited employment options and high economic vulnerability.
Livelihood Support & Training
Under this intervention, beneficiaries receive a small herd of sheep, which serves as an immediate and reliable income source. DWA also provides comprehensive training in sheep rearing, covering essential areas such as feeding practices, disease prevention, breeding, and pasture management. Regular veterinary support ensures that livestock remain healthy and productive.
Impact & Outcomes
Through this project, DWA improved financial stability for 20 single women, creating indirect benefits for nearly 100 individuals in the community. Many women have reported increased income, better ability to meet household needs, and renewed confidence in managing their livelihoods.
In 2024, the project expanded significantly with support from BASAID & UCH, reaching 60 women with a total budget of ₹6,00,000. Baby sheep were distributed to participants, further strengthening their long-term earning potential.
