3. Tailoring Program: Women Empowerment Through Skill Development

Overview

The Tailoring & Skill Development Program is a flagship women empowerment initiative by DWA aimed at creating sustainable livelihoods for women in rural areas. Many women in tribal and Dalit communities lack marketable skills, restricting their ability to earn a steady income.

Training & Skill Building

The program provides vocational training in essential tailoring skills, including stitching, garment design, pattern cutting, and basic alterations. By equipping women with hands-on skills, DWA ensures they gain confidence and the ability to take up home-based or commercial tailoring work.
Each participant also receives a sewing machine, enabling them to immediately begin generating income.

Impact & Real Stories

The program successfully trained and empowered 50 young women, many of whom now earn consistent income by stitching clothes for their communities.

One beneficiary, Lakshmi, used her tailoring income to send her children to school—demonstrating the ripple effect of empowering one woman in a low-income household.

In 2021, with support from NCT India, the program operated with a ₹1,50,000 budget, directly benefiting 50 women.

Long-Term Benefits

The initiative promotes financial independence, boosts household income, and improves the overall social status of women in rural communities.
